Coby Electronics Corp., a manufacturer of consumer electronics products, has moved its headquarters to Lake Success, from Maspeth, where it had been since the early 1990s.

The company moved into 20,000-square foot offices at 1991 Marcus Blvd., in the past week, a company official said Friday. Coby had been located in 7,000 square feet in Maspeth. Coby said the Maspeth facility will continue to serve as a warehouse and customer-service operation. The company has about 70 employees in Lake Success, and a total of 130 in the United States.

Robert Gee, a vice president of marketing, said Coby plans to expand, but he was unable to say how many more employees it would add. "The company has been growing since its inception," Gee said. "We're better positioned for future growth now."

Coby has manufacturing plants in China, where it makes MP3 players, DVD home and portable equipment, Digital Photo Frames, and other consumer products. The products are sold at such retailers as Circuit City, Sears and Kmart.

The company was founded in 1990 and has distribution facilities in California, Miami and Asia. Young Dong Lee, Coby's president, said in a statement that the move to Lake Success represents "an important stage in the company's evolution and expansion."
